On contact with blood, Oxicel Powder initiates the clotting process: platelets, red blood cells and blood proteins are concentrated in the powder particles to create a gelled matrix. This improves the normal clotting mechanism, regardless of the patient's coagulation status, by creating a barrier to further blood loss. The powder is absorbed within 24 to 48 hours.

Application technique
Four steps: dry the wound with gauze and remove excess blood; immediately apply Oxicel Powder over the entire wound; apply direct pressure with moist gauze for 1 to 2 minutes; then irrigate to remove excess powder once hemostasis is achieved.

Delivery system for open and laparoscopic surgery
The spray applicator is a light plastic device with a long, flexible tube, and extended-reach tips provide accurate, precise delivery from a simple single-use device. Applicators come in 14 cm for open surgery and 38 cm for laparoscopic surgery, with 1 to 5 g of powder.
